In all that we do and in all that we support, the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion works to create an environment where everyone feels valued and can thrive. This is our mission.

Our work helps shape how patients, students, faculty and staff feel — and what they believe — about Michigan Medicine.

This office is closely aligned with the overall University of Michigan diversity, equity and inclusion strategic plan. Our scope spans research, diversity-related issues and leadership. Here’s a glimpse of all we offer:

Distinctly rare tools for researching health disparities. Michigan Medicine researchers get 1:1 expert help to precisely frame, plan and analyze health disparities data. Or, tap our online collection of journals’ articles on heath disparities research that we’re developing.

Training courses. Employees and students sign up for innovative and engaging workshops such as “Everyday Bias” and many more.

Networking. Events for faculty, house officers and staff promote engagement and a stronger sense of community.

Programs on health disparities issues. Students and faculty delve into our body of knowledge.

Commitment to helping students succeed. Among several programs, high school through college students in underserved populations learn about medical fields and biomedical research. Undergrads get guidance in applying to medical school at Michigan and elsewhere.
