The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion is saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of our beloved administrative manager, Mrs. Yvette (Harris) Stockard (link to obituary).
Yvette dedicated over 17 years to Michigan Medicine – which included her role as administrative manager in OHEI, as well as roles in Pediatric Trauma and Section of Pediatric Surgery. Yvette played a vital role in positioning OHEI for increased productivity and long term impact relative to the office’s mission and vision. Her character and integrity was the true embodiment of Michigan Medicine’s core values of caring, innovation, inclusion, integrity and teamwork.
In honor of the legacy that Yvette leaves with us, we would like to take a moment to recognize that the arduous work of diversity, equity and inclusion is one that requires significant sacrifice and leadership from many – beyond the standard duties articulated in job descriptions. Yvette was the quintessential example of an individual who lead and supported their team from behind-the-scenes with altruism, compassion and empathy. The impact of individuals such as Yvette who contribute their extraordinary gifts and talents to the many critically important, yet often unheralded, roles within Michigan Medicine is what makes our institution remarkable.
As we continue to collectively remember an amazing colleague and friend, we encourage all who have been impacted by Yvette and her legacy to make self-care a priority, and remember the greater importance and impact that all of your diligence in diversity, equity and inclusion has.
