Research — the foundation of all our work — enables the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion to:
- Provide “pure science” to our health system colleagues
- Document issues related to health disparities, equity and inclusion and climate throughout Michigan Medicine
- Evaluate Michigan Medicine efforts to eliminate health disparities
- Mentor undergraduate, graduate and medical students in developing excellent research skills
OHEI research projects are scientifically sound and systematically evaluated. Our experienced analysts lead OHEI’s own studies. They also are available to help Michigan Medicine researchers and scholars plan and analyze projects to meaningfully study health disparities in their area of interest.
OHEI also continually looks beyond Michigan Medicine to inclusion issues across the health care industry. An emerging issue is the accepted definition of the term “underserved,” which OHEI analysts see as too narrow in some studies.
